Bird run for the 20th

I picked up a juvenile grackle who did not photograph well, he turned out blurry...he was not injured, just young and not fending for himself yet, and he squacked the whole way from East Lake to Rogers...me being me, I was compelled to squack back, so we had a nice half hour conversation.

There was also a teensy-weensy sparrow who got put in with other teensy-weensy sparrows and swifts:

The little kingbirds from the 13th have grown a lot:

Some people brought in a baby green heron while I was there, and he was just darling! He would peck at you and make this quack! sound...very feisty little guy. He ate some pinky mice and promptly fell asleep on his feet, little head hanging.

And of course, the roadrunner update! He flaps his wings blurringly fast and makes a kind of hhhrhhhrhhhrrr noise :) And I think I caught him making tongueface in one of these pics.

What a tongue! And he has a sandbox! Is it for his gizzard or for the sake of providing desert scenery?

I'd guess for his gizzard? Although maybe also for his feet, since that's the kind of ground he'd be used to as an adult and other birds get perches. He is eating small mice, and when I fed him one he gulped it on down :)
